Bomb Squad Investigates Package, Turns Out to Be a Tool Box

Police cordoned off an area near Old Town Monrovia while investigating the suspicious package.

The sheriff's department bomb squad was called in to investigate a "suspicious package" discovered near Old Town Monrovia on Saturday evening, but investigators found it to be nothing more than an abandoned toolbox.

A call came into the about 5:15 p.m. about the package at the southeast corner of South Primrose Avenue and West Maple Avenue, said MPD Sgt. Nick Manfredi.

The police called in the arson and explosives detail of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which investigated and discovered it to be harmless, said LASD Sgt. Richard Peña.

It's unclear whether the police ordered an evacuation of the area during the investigation, but police cordoned off the area around the package, according to a report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. (The Trib also reported that the package was discovered in the 800 block of South Myrtle.)
