Hello Monrovians,

Find out what's happening in Monroviafor free with the latest updates from Patch.

This update has been prepared to share with you everything that is taking place in Monrovia.

In case you missed it, earlier this week I shared a message to the community regarding the shooting that occurred on March 29, at the 100 block of Los Angeles Avenue, where one individual was killed. As with any homicide investigation in the City, investigations are conducted by the LA County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau and will remain active and ongoing for some time. I anticipate few, if any, details from the ongoing investigation will be released by the Sheriff’s Department until they are prepared to release that information. Until then, if you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.

Sincerely,

Monrovia Canyon Park Volunteers Receive Award of Excellence

The California Park & Recreation Society awarded the City of Monrovia’s Canyon Park Volunteers with the “Champion of the Community” Award of Excellence. On average, 25 Canyon Park volunteers give over 2,500 hours of service each year.

Through the Monrovia Canyon Park Volunteers’ contributions, our community can enjoy improved facilities, trails and programs.

Canyon Park Volunteers, we thank you for making a difference!

Monrovia Canyon Park Virtual Walking Tour

The recovery process can be described as a long marathon. Monrovia Canyon Park will remain closed indefinitely and for an extended period of time. There continues to be daily debris flow and erosion coming down the mountain ridges into the park. In addition, trees continue to fall or are in need of removal to clear trails and walkways.

In time, these beautiful open spaces will welcome you back! Until then, we'll continue to share videos of the recovery progress.

This walking tour of Canyon Park was filled after one of the recent major rainstorms in LA County. Although the rainstorm did cause additional damage, you'll see that wildlife has begin to repopulate the park and vegetation has begin to grow.

Monrovia Parks, Wilderness, and Recreation Foundation (MPWR) supports recreation and community programs, parks, facilities, and open spaces in Monrovia. MPWR is asking for your support! Whether it’s a one-time donation, a recurring monthly gift, a tribute, a bequest, or offering your time, your contribution makes the work of the Monrovia Parks, Wilderness, and Recreation Foundation possible.

County of Los Angeles Moves to Orange Tier

Los Angeles County has met the threshold for the less restrictive orange tier in the State's Blueprint for a Safer Economy.

A revised Los Angeles County Health Officer Order will go into effect on Monday, April 5 at 12:01 a.m. to reflect newly permitted activities. This allows the County to follow the state guidelines and wait until three weeks are completed in the red tier to be sure that case numbers do not rise this third week since the County’s earlier re-openings. The Health Officer Order and modified directives for businesses will be posted today, with an effective date of April 5. Los Angeles County Department of Public Health teams will be available this week and through the weekend to provide information about upcoming changes, allowing establishments to be prepared for full compliance with the required safety modifications.

Monrovia Unified School District Superintendent Survey

The MUSD Board of Education is asking for help in selecting the next superintendent of schools. Students, staff, parents, and the community are encouraged to complete a survey by April 2.

The survey will ask you to respond to several critical questions. The information generated from this anonymous survey will be used to develop a profile that indicates the desired qualities and characteristics of the next superintendent. It will also guide the recruitment and reference checking process as well as the development of questions for the interview. The survey also seeks your perspectives on District strengths, challenges, and our community.

Celebrate Spring Safely

Masks increases prevention of spreading respiratory droplets when talking, sneezing, or coughing. If everyone wears a mask when out in public, such as visiting a business, the risk of exposure to COVID-19 can be reduced for the entire community.

In addition to wearing a mask when you leave your home, be sure to continue to practice physical distancing and wash your hands often.
