Construction on a new 21-home development on South Magnolia Avenue near Cherry Avenue could get underway in late February or early March.
The Monrovia City Council last week voted 3-0 to approve the final tract map for the project at 1323 S. Magnolia Ave.
Councilmen Tom Adams and Alexander Blackburn abstained due to a potential conflict of interest. Mayor Pro Tem Becky Shevlin also had a potential conflict but was allowed to vote on the project after drawing straws with Adams and Blackburn, according to city officials.
The final tract map calls for the property to be re-subdivided into 22 plots for a 21-unit, two-story development of detached homes. The Planning Commission approved the tentative tract map in May, as did the City Council in June.
Todd Bowden, representing Bowden Development, gave a brief presentation at the council meeting on the project.
The plans call for the removal of an existing school building, some of the playground, and a grass area on the old First Lutheran School property, Bowden said.
The church facilities will remain intact, he said.
The plans are in plan check and once the map is recorded, the developers can finalize the close of escrow with the seller and begin construction, he said.
