Police Examining Sunday Morning Stabbing

Police are checking out the elements -- including an earlier call about vandalism -- leading up to a teenager being stabbed in the arm.

A 16-year-old's shaky account about his Sunday morning stabbing and reports of a vandalism at a residence minutes earlier in the same area have led police to delve further into the events surrounding both incidents, according to Monrovia Police.

Sgt. Glen Coleman of the Monrovia Police Department said that the teen's mother brought him to the hospital after he'd sustained a stab wound to his upper right arm at roughtly 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning, prompting the hospital to call the police. Before the stabbing, Coleman said, there was a call from a resident that "someone threw a water meter through the front of their house." Both incidents occurred in the area of California Avenue, near Evergreen Avenue.

Coleman pointed out that there were various inconsistencies in what the teen was saying, and that "they wouldn't give us a straight answer" every time they spoke to the victim and his friends, who admitted that they had all been drinking that night.

"So right now, we don't know if this victim is actually a suspect," Coleman said.

The Pasadena Star-News reports that the teen told investigators that he and his friends had been approached on the street by two men in their 20s.

After exchanging words, the victim reported, one of the two men pulled a knife and stabbed the teen in the upper arm, Coleman told the Star-News, which added that the vandalism victim told investigators he chased a group of vandals for a short distance on California Avenue, but did not report being involved in a fight.
