SGV's Kim Rhode Wins World Cup Shooting Event

This is her third consecutive victory since winning a bronze medal at the Rio Olympics.

EL MONTE, CA -- Six-time Olympic medalist Kim Rhode of El Monte won the women's skeet event at the ISSF World Cup competition Saturday in Acapulco, Mexico, her third consecutive victory since winning a bronze medal at the Rio Olympics.

Rhode missed two of her first 10 targets in the final, then hit each of the next 28. Immediately after her streak ended, the 37-year-old Rhode hit 13 of the next 14, then missed two of the final seven.

Rhode hit 54 of her 60 targets in the final, one more than Caitlin Connor of Winnfield, Louisiana. Cao Yi of China was third, hitting 41 targets. Katie Jacob, a 17-year-old from Rochester, Michigan was fourth, setting a world junior record by hitting 30 targets.

Rhode also won the World Cup Final in Rome in October and a World Cup competition in India last month, all conducted by the International Shooting Sport Federation, the sport's international governing body. The victory Saturday was her third in World Cup competitions in Acapulco.

"I still get the thrill of the victory when it happens," Rhode said. "This place especially, it just feels like home. The weather, the hot temperature and California being just one hour away. It's always great to win here in Acapulco."

Among those tweeting congratulations to Rhode was Donald Trump Jr., a son of President Donald Trump.

"Congrats @KimRhode really well done," the younger Trump tweeted.

Rhode was fourth in qualifying, hitting 70 of 75 targets.

Rhode is the only Summer Olympic athlete to win a medal in six consecutive games. Her medal haul includes gold medals in 1996, 2004 and 2012.
