Crescenta Valley Explorers Win Big at Regional Competition

The team beat out competitors from explorer posts as far away as Nevada to clinch the top award in the "narcotics take down" and "family disturbance" skills categories.

The Crescenta Valley Explorers earned two first-place trophies at the second annual Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Explorer competition recently held at the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic, Calif.

The team beat out competitors from explorer posts as far away as Arizona and Nevada to clinch the top award in the "narcotics take down" and "family disturbance" law enforcement skills categories.

Crescenta Valley Explorers also took second in "high-risk traffic stop" and "tubular assault" and third in the "active shooter" scenario.

Beside the team awards, Explorers Kevin Lentz and Mark Miller placed second in the Explorer Fitness Challenge, which was designed by the United States Marine Corps. Due to the rigorous physical challenges, only the top physically fit explorers were selected to participate in this event.
