Replica Gun Forces Lockdown At Crescenta Valley High School

A student, who was a member of the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps, walked onto campus with a replica firearm.

LA CRESCENTA, CA — A student with a replica firearm was detained by police after the teen prompted a lockdown at Crescenta Valley High School Monday afternoon.

At about 2:30 p.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to the school at 2900 Community Avenue in La Crescenta after multiple calls of a person walking onto the campus with a firearm. The school was placed on lockdown as deputies assessed the campus, LASD said.

Deputies determined the student carried a replica firearm and was a member of the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps. The person was detained on campus and determined not to be a threat.

There were no threats to students or staff, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. The junior ROTC member was not arrested.
