Falcons Cruise To Another Easy Win

The Crescenta Valley boys basketball team overwhelms Sun Valley in an 85-31 win.

For the second night in a row, the boys basketball team completely dominated a team that didn't have the size or experience to stay with the Falcons.

Crescenta Valley crushed Sun Valley 85-31 on Wednesday at the Falcon Classic Tournament.

"We had good chemistry out there tonight," Falcons coach Shawn Zargarian said.

The game was out of reach almost immediately as the Falcons opened with a 13-0 run. Leading the way again were junior center Christian Misi and sophomore guard Cole Currie. The Falcons would finish the first quarter with an astonishing lead of 27-1.

As a school, Sun Valley is only in its third year. The Wildcat basketball team has just nine players, with only one, sophomore Brian Conchas, taller than 6-feet. The team played hard, but simply found itself overwhelmed.

During the second quarter, the Falcons started to get sloppy in their play. While never out of complete control of the game, the defense allowed 14 points and saw the offense struggle after such a dominant effort in the first quarter.

"It's unfortunate that some players just look at the scoreboard, and then try to play to that," Zargarian said.

The third and fourth quarters saw the Falcons back on track with leads of more than 50 points. Currie would finish with a team-high 19 points.

"Cole's got a lot of responsibility for the team," Zargarian said. "We expect him to draw the best players and do a lot of big things."

With the game so well in hand, second string players got to see significant playing time.

"It's nice to work our bench guys in," Zargarian said. "They work their butts off in practice."

By the end of the night, not only had everyone played, but 11 of CV's 12 players had scored.

Zargarian also used the opportunities in the game to experiment with different offensive schemes in a pseudo live practice.

"We got the chance to try some new looks and put certain players in different spots during the game."

Next up for the Falcons is Antelope Valley on Thursday, and it looks to be the first real test for the team.

"It'll be a good challenge for us," said Zargarian. "The guys are going to need to come out and be ready to play."

The Antelopes are 2-0 on the season including a 69-47 win over South Pasadena earlier Wednesday night.
