Kontentsu Brings Savory Ramen In A Trendy Setting To Montrose
Now you can experience Ramen, a Japanese noodle soup, in Montrose. New restaurant Kontentsu is now open with stunning patio dining and food.
Finally! The first ever RAMEN restaurant to open in Montrose and it's a keeper! KONTENTSU is the latest offering from the owners of successful MODAN RAMEN in South Pasadena and Eagle Rock. The building, which formerly housed Trattoria Allegria, has been completely transformed inside and out and it is chic!
Upon entering you will find a clean, contemporary space, that is modern yet at the same time homey. The soothing neutral palette is enhanced with artwork that celebrates the Ramen theme: bowls, noodles, broth, slurping. Out back is patio dining Montrose style, a balcony strung with little white lights and suspended among the Verdugo Mountains. Seriously, it's the best "hidden" view in the Montrose Shopping Park!
The star of the show is RAMEN and it's served piping hot with large spoons in deep bowls. For those that don't know, Ramen is a Japanese style soup consisting of a savory broth, lots of noodles, and enhanced with various meats and vegetables. At Kontentsu the broth is HOUSE MADE!

The VEGETABLE MISO RAMEN pictured here is so fragrant with deliciousness! It begins with a miso vegetable broth, then long, thin noodles, lightly fried tofu, wood mushrooms, scallions, bamboo shoots, corn, and seaweed paper. It is finished with a mound of fresh Arugula. So very savory, healthy, and satisfying. There are also several varieties featuring pork and chicken based broth. There is a bowl of Ramen for everyone from meat eaters to vegans to spicy adventures and more!
Japanese beer, bottled and on tap, sake, both hot and cold, and sodas are all available. Ice cold water served in handled mason jars with refills is complementary.

If you're a RICE lover Kontentsu has got you covered. SPICY TUNA DON will wake up your taste buds! Fresh, spicy tuna sits atop a mound of perfect sushi rice, with pickled ginger, scallions, and seaweed flakes. Just yummy and one of several rice dishes.
To round out the noodle and rice mainstays there are lots of SHAREABLE options. The BRUSSELS SPROUTS are one of the most popular items and a "must order". The sweet, savory glaze over fried Brussels Sprouts, served with a side of white truffle aioli, is a winner.
Who doesn't love good fried chicken? KARAGE CHICKEN is so elegantly presented with just the right crunch. Lightly battered and seasoned bite sized pieces of chicken are fried and served with aioli.
For a textural tasty bite, try SPICY TUNA CRISPS where the sushi rice is deep fried, topped with spicy tuna, and drizzled with a sweet soy reduction and sriracha aioli. They disappear fast!
Put some adventure in your life with the SPIDER SLIDER. A lightly battered soft shell crab is served on a buttered bun with arugula, daikon sprouts, and a sweet soy reduction.
