La Crescenta Woman to Release Debut Novel

Lauren Tharp's "The Ballad of Allison and Bandit" tells the story of Bandit, a 14-year-old girl reeling from the death of a close family member.

La Crescenta native Lauren Tharp is set to release her debut young adult novel, "The Ballad of Allison and Bandit." The book tackles grief, growing up, friendship and finding one's purpose in life.

Set during the summer of 1999, "The Ballad of Allison and Bandit" is the story of Bandit, a 14-year-old girl reeling from a death of a close family member. Bored and alone, Bandit befriends the neighborhood oddball, Allison Gale — a girl with "a large nose, no sense of smell and a bizarre penchant for eating raw onions."

The paperback book will be available for purchase online and in select book stores beginning April 17. There will also be a free e-book version of the novel available for downloading at http://laurentharp.net.
