Parklets In Process At The Montrose Shopping Park
The City Of Glendale has begun the set up of six parklets to promote al fresco dining in the Montrose Shopping Park.

How would you like to be dining outdoors in scenic Montrose, amidst flowering Yellow Hibiscus? The CITY OF GLENDALE has jumped on a nationwide trend to help our one of a kind restaurants get back to business. As per the city's website, "On Tuesday, June 2, the Glendale City Council authorized the establishment of the Al Fresco Glendale Program. The program will allow local dine-in restaurants to apply to extend to outdoor dining on both public and private properties. It provides businesses with a low-cost alternative to re-establish their customer base to pre-COVID levels by offering outdoor dining alternatives."
Today the city has installed K rails, which are scheduled to be painted by Thursday, as the borders of six PARKLETS along Honolulu Ave. What is a parklet you ask? As per Wikpedia "A parklet is a sidewalk extension that provides more space and amenities for people using the street. Usually parklets are installed on parking lanes and use several parking spaces. Parklets typically extend out from the sidewalk at the level of the sidewalk to the width of the adjacent parking space. Parklets are intended for people."

This map, designed by DALE DAWSON, Business Manager for the MSPA (Montrose Shopping Park Association) shows where the parklets are installed. The green areas represent parklet locations. The red dots show the many dining venues in the Montrose Shopping Park.

MSPA Board President ANDRE ORDUBEGIAN and Dale Dawson were invited to be part of the City Of Glendale Reopening Task Force. They have attended numerous Zoom meetings headed by JENNIFER HIRAMOTO, Deputy Director Of Economic Development. The goal being to create something that will benefit the close to 200 businesses in the MSPA.
The parklets, when complete, will feature tables, chairs, and umbrellas, surrounded by concrete painted K rails, and decorated with succulents.

Montrose is home to dozens of eateries, several who already have popular patio dining, like JOSELITO'S, pictured here. Others include Black Cow, Star Cafe, Portabello's, Casa Cordoba, Kontentsu, and Thee Elbow Room.
The parklets are perfectly timed with the reopening of most of the unique "mom and pop" businesses Montrose is known for. After three long months of being shuttered it's exciting to have something new to enjoy in a safe, open air environment that Montrose so perfectly offers. Welcome parklets and outdoor dining in beautiful Montrose!
