“Puerto Rico: Interior/Exterior” open in GCC Art Gallery March 1

“Puerto Rico: Interior/Exterior,” a group exhibition by nine Puerto Rican contemporary artists that examines the cultural, economic and political effects of hurricanes Maria and Irma, will be displayed in the Glendale Community College Art Gallery March 1 through May 15.

The artists are Elsa María Melendez, Adál, Awilda Rodríguez Lora, Frances Gallardo, Ricardo Rodríguez, Martín García Rivera, Erika P. Rodríguez, Patrick V. McGrath Muñiz and Jo Cosme. The exhibition features a variety of media with the works depicting the hidden dualities and contradictions that have faced Puerto Rico, even prior to hurricanes Maria and Irma, and examines how the hurricanes exposed vulnerabilities of predatory debt, racism and economic exclusions.

The Art Gallery will host a community event and reception on Saturday, April 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. featuring Puerto Rican music and dance, food, lectures and gallery tours.
