Why so many trucks after winter storms?

To keep communities flood safe, LA County is performing emergency clean-out operations at its debris basins.

In an effort to safeguard lives and property during this period of increased risk of mud and debris flows, LA County Public Works is conducting emergency clean-out operations at LA County debris basins within North San Fernando Valley burn areas. The material being removed from these flood protection facilities consists of sediment, rocks and debris from scorched canyon areas.

The urgency of this operation has resulted in an increased level of trucking activity, especially in communities downstream of the La Tuna Burn Area and along haul routes leading to the Dunsmuir and May sediment placement sites.

Public Works maintenance teams are working closely with local elected officials and community representatives to keep them apprised of these operations and to maintain open channels of communications with homeowners within the affected communities.

This current maintenance operation is expected to be completed by mid-March 2018; however, future storms may result in additional clean-out activities.

For more information on clean-out operations, contact Laren Bunker at (818) 896-0594 or after business hours at (800) 675-HELP (4357).
