6th-Grade Teacher Pleads Guilty to Lewd Acts With a Student
Malia Brooks, who admitted to substantial sexual contact with the 14-year-old, faces a maximum 12-year prison term.
Malia Brooks, 32, a former 6th-grade teacher at Garden Grove Elementary School in Simi Valley, has pleaded guilty to three counts of lewd acts with a child, according to District Attorney Gregory D. Totten.
She also admitted to substantial sexual contact with the 14-year-old student, making her ineligible for a sentence of probation.
The incidents reportedly occurred between Jan. 15 and Feb. 16, 2013, Totten said in a prepared statement.
Brooks could face a maximum sentence of 12 years in state prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 23.
