City Of Moorpark: Moorpark Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training

The City of Moorpark is pleased to announce that new, Hybrid Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training is now available through a partnership between the City and Ventura County Fire Department.

CERT is a training program that prepares you to help yourself, your family, your coworkers, and your neighbors in the event of a disaster.  During an incident, emergency service personnel may not be able to reach everyone right away, and in 95 percent of all emergencies, the victim or bystander provides the first immediate assistance on the scene.  Through a nationally recognized training course, CERT members are able to lend a helping hand when the need arises.

Basic CERT training is now available online through the City’s website at www.moorparkca.gov/CERT. Once enough CERT students have completed the 12-hour online training, a 16-hour in-person training, a skills demonstration will be scheduled to complete the course. There is no cost to participants for either portion of the training.

By becoming trained in CERT, you will have the skills to help emergency responders save lives and property. Under the direction of local emergency responders, CERT teams help provide critical support by giving immediate assistance to victims, providing damage assessment information, and organizing other volunteers at a disaster site.  The role of a CERT volunteer is to help others until emergency personnel arrive. In the event of an emergency, certified CERT graduates are not required to assist in an official role.
