On its calendar this weekend, the Moorpark City Library has book club meetings set for both the city's youngest and adult residents.
On Saturday, the 4 Paws Book Club for children will take place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Children will have the opportunity to read to a real live dog visiting from the Paws 4 Healing organization. Sign ups for a 10 to 15-minute turn at reading take place the day of the event and are on a first come, first served basis.
On Sunday, the book club for adults will meet at 2 p.m. to discuss Helen Simonson's Major Pettigrew's Last Stand. The New York Times bestselling book follows the unexpected friendship between a retired British army major in a small English village and a widow who runs the local shop.
"As the Major and Mrs. Ali discover just how much they have in common, including an edicated background and a shared love of books, they must struggle to understand what it means to belong and how far the obligations of family and tradition can be set aside for personal freedom," says Simonson's website of the book.
The book club is open to all adults.
Both events are free and take place at the library, 699 Moorpark Ave.
