Meet An “Amazing” Who Uplifts Listeners From His Apartment Window
Simon Gronowski, 89, proves true to his belief that music is a marvelous means of communication and connection.

Simon Gronowski, at 89, proves true to his belief that music is a marvelous means of communication and connection. He plays jazz piano from his open apartment window for all to enjoy, given the impossibility of traditional concerts due to lock-down and social isolation requirements.
Simon taught himself to play piano after he escaped Nazi Germany as a way to connect with his sister who had died in Auschwitz. The story of his escape was immortalized in an opera by British composer Howard Moody called “Push,” for it was his mother’s pushing Simon off the train that was taking his family to Auschwitz that led to what Simon calls the miracles that are his life. The opera was then filmed as a huge virtual choir, featuring over 150 opera singers from the UK and Belgium.
