Meet An “AMAZING!” Whose Creativity Continues To Soar

Howardena Pindell, at 77, is still going strong. In addition to her current position as professor of art at Stony Brook University, this ground-breaking painter and mixed media artist has - in 2018 and 2019 alone - seen her works exhibited at the Museum of Arts in Sao Paulo, Brazil, at the National Gallery in Washington D.C., at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Since her first exhibit in 1971,

Howardena has contributed year in, year out, to the art world, including a long (12 years!) and illustrious career at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City where she has been at various times exhibit assistant, curatorial assistant, and associate curator, later holding a curatorial position in the Department of Prints and Illustrated Books. This, in addition to her many awards, not the least of which was a Guggenheim Fellowship for painting.
