Robert Ballard, at 79, is on to yet bigger and better adventures. He’s now on the hunt to find Amelia Earhart’s downed aircraft, which presents a host of challenges. Not that Robert hasn’t encountered daunting challenges before in his work including the discovering the wreck of the Titanic, the battleship Bismarck, the US aircraft carrier USS Yorktown, JFK’s PT-109 to name but a few.

Passionate about marine archaeology, Robert, a retired American Navy officer and a professor of oceanography, continues to develop and explore new technology to support his underwater archeological endeavors.

In addition, wanting to preserve some of the most significant wreckage for future generations, Robert plans to set up underwater museums for both the Titanic and its sunken sister ship Britannia so that visitors can travel to these astonishing discoveries electronically.
