Meet An “Amazing” Whose Legendary Talent Still Astounds
Sian Phillips, 88, continues to act up a storm.

Sian Phillips, at 88, continues to act up a storm. Last year alone, the actress portrayed (among others) characters in two TV series, “The Refuge” and “Keeping Faith” (recurring role), narrated for such different projects as “A Christmas Carol,” and “World of Warcraft: Shadowlands,” and commanded the stage as Madame Neilsen in “National Theatre Live: Les Blancs.”
Not bad for an actress who as a child grew up in Wales speaking only Welsh, and learned English by listening to the radio. Her first role was at age 11 for BBC radio, her first television role was at age 17, and her first acting award at age 18.
Sian has been going strong ever since. Her roles and awards are far too numerous to mention. Suffice it to say that Sian’s astonishing talent has been well recognized, earning her in addition to acting kudos, a coveted appointment as Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the 2016 New Year Honours for services to drama.
