Meet An “Amazing” Whose Poetry Inspires
Louise Gluck, 77, has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Louise Gluck, at 77, has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature to add to her already impressive collection of awards and recognition including the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award and the National Humanities Medal. From 2003 to 2004, Louise was also Poet Laureate of the United States. Louise now holds a position as Adjunct Professor and Rosenkranz Writer in Residence at Yale University.
Her beginnings in life didn’t foretell her great success, however. Louise suffered from anorexia nervosa as a teen, which continued through her early adulthood. It prevented her from receiving the traditional college education she and her parents, had anticipated for her. Undeterred, Louise enrolled in poetry classes and workshops, which she credits with providing her with mentors who greatly influenced her work. What courage in the service of her passion. A great reminder to never, ever, give up.
