Monday Essentials: Cowboys are Back in the County

Five things you need to know, Monday, July 22.

Hey Patchers, we're bringing back an old Patch feature. A daily Five Things column (Monday's Five Things will be called Monday Essentials) will provide reminders about upcoming events, weather forecasts, community meetings, weekend fun to plan for, lowest gas prices for the week and more.

If you have an event you'd like us to consider for Five Things, be sure to add it to the events calendar. We check it often!

Here are today's five things:

  • Filling up the tank for the work week? Gasbuddy.com reports the cheapest regular gas in Moorpark can be found at the 76 station at 13800 Princeton Ave. at Spring Road for $4.05 per gallon.
  • Moorpark's got a slight chance of rain today and tonight (Granted, it's only a 20 percent chance, per the National Weather Service, but it's a chance). The rest of the week should be mostly sunny with highs in the mid 80s until Friday, when the temperature rises to 87 for the weekend.
  • See a live magic show, thanks to the Moorpark City Library, at 3 p.m. today at the Community Center's Apricot Room, 799 Moorpark Ave. The show is geared to kids from preschool age to grade five. The library is also hosting a movie for teens at 4:30 p.m. Call the library at 805-517-6370.
  • Now is the time to secure your spot for the Active Adult Center's July Country Western Celebration. The event features a tribute to Johnny Cash with Michael Jay of the Might Cash Cats. The luncheon begins at 11:45 Wednesday, July 31 and costs $2.75 for seniors 60 and older. Call the center at 805-517-6261 for reservations.
  • The Dallas Cowboys are back in the county! The team's training kick off was Sunday and they'll be at their training camp in Oxnard at River Ridge Playing Fields, 2101 W. Vineyard Ave. through Aug. 16. Admission is free and tickets are not needed to visit camp, which has a kids zone area, live performances by team mascot Rowdy, the Cowboys on Tour trucks, team merchandise and Hall of Fame trailers. See the visitors' website for various fan events.
