Santa Barbara County recognizes May as National Foster Care Month

Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors shines light on work done for foster youth

(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) —May 1, 2019 – Following a unanimous vote by the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors, May of 2019 has been formally designated as National Foster Care Month. Conceptualized as a way to recognize and honor the heroic work done by resource families throughout the county, the resolution will be, fittingly, received by Frank and Adrienne Koroshec, a resource family and pair of local heroes in the foster care community.

Frank Koroshec rose to communal prominence by founding the Resource Family Association Student Support Team (RFASST) at Santa Barbara’s San Marcos High School in 2015, where he serves as an English teacher. Utilizing his experience both as a foster parent and as an educator, Koroshec has involved over 100 students in the work that RFASST does, which includes activities such as organizing resource family meet ups and interactive group outings, as well as implementing a monthly speaker series at San Marcos High.

“RFASST has taught me to open my eyes to the needs of our community, especially foster youth and the resource families,” said Deryn Gersoff, San Marcos High School student. Gorsoff added that “RFASST has been a highlight and I know it will impact my future.”
