Seventh Annual Agricultural Day Golf Tournament Set For June 26

Proceeds from the tournament will support SEEAG's cost-free agricultural education program for kids and community members.

The 7th annual Ventura County Agricultural Day Golf Tournament to support the agricultural community and agricultural education will be on Monday, June 26 at the Spanish Hills Country Club in Camarillo. The tournament is presented by Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture (SEEAG) and Lowthorp Richards, the tournament’s Arnold Palmer premier sponsor.

For the third year, proceeds from the tournament will support SEEAG’s cost-free agricultural education program for kids and community members in Ventura and Los Angeles counties. Since SEEAG’s founding in 2008, over 15,000 elementary school students in Southern California have increased their understanding of the farm origins of their food—through no-cost farm field trips including those to SEEAG’s Farm Lab at Petty Ranch in Saticoy and through in-class SEEAG presentations.

“The money raised at the golf tournament goes a long way to help make our programs possible,” says Mary Maranville, SEEAG executive director. “Most of the young students who participate in our program have never been to a farm before so it’s an eye opening experience for them. They come away with an appreciation of the hard work that goes into growing a lemon, orange, avocado or any other produce that they see sold at their local grocery store.”

The golf tournament cost is $250 per person ($1,000 for a foursome and a company logo/sign at one of the greens). It includes green fees and cart, 18 holes of golf, continental breakfast, lunch, prizes, swag bags, cocktail reception and an awards dinner and silent auction. In addition, tasty farm-fresh snacks and drinks at different holes will be prepared and served throughout the day. “The tournament will be bigger and better this year with lots more activities and giveaways planned,” says Maranville. Check-in is at 8:30 a.m. with the shotgun start, Texas Scramble tournament beginning at 10:00 a.m. Dinner is at 5:00 p.m.

About SEEAG

Founded in 2008, Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture (SEEAG) aims to help young students understand the origins of their food by bridging the gap between agriculture and consumption through its agricultural education programming. SEEAG’s “Farm to Table – The Journey of Our Food From Field to Fork” program based in Ventura County teaches schoolchildren about the origins of their food and the importance of local farmland by providing schools with classroom agricultural education and free field trips to farms. Through this program, over 15,000 elementary school students in Southern California have increased their understanding of the food journey.
