Ventura County Non-Profit Returns With its Popular "No-Show" Gala
Now in its 15th year, The Greater Contribution's Black-Tie No-Show Dinner is one of the country's first socially distanced fundraisers

The Greater Contribution, which transforms lives through micro loans and educational tools to lift women in Uganda from poverty, invites you to its annual fundraising dinner.
BUT PLEASE DON’T SHOW UP!
“When we first introduced our Black-Tie No-Show Dinner 15 years ago, we had no idea we were among the first of what’s now commonly called ‘socially distanced’ galas,” said Karon Wright, co-founder and president of The Greater Contribution.

Wright explained that, while members of the public are invited each year to the fundraising dinner, they are asked to keep their tuxedos and formal dresses in the closet, give their babysitters the night off and plan a meal at home instead.
“In return, we ask for their donations to help us continue our mission of empowering women in Uganda, one of the poorest countries in the world,” said Wright. “Businesses there are slowly beginning to open following pandemic-related shutdowns, and we are helping them purchase new inventories, strategize on their reopenings, restock their inventories, connect to health care, feed their families and help keep them from slipping back into poverty.”

The Black-No-Show Dinner runs through December 31, 2020. Any donations made before December 1 will be doubled through a generous matching gift program from The Greater Contribution donors Fred Simmons, Dave and Jeanne Matthews, and Kevin and Barbara Hutto.
“We are honored and deeply grateful for our matching-gift donors,” said Sandy Galin, director of development for The Greater Contribution.
Galin added The Greater Contribution’s mission is more important now than ever before. “The need for micro loans to restock and restart businesses is especially important due to the pandemic,” she said. “Plus, we are implementing a new program focused on crisis planning and sustainability to help women cope with serious emergencies like what we’re currently dealing with.”
