CHP Lauds Amber Alert Awareness Day

The California Highway Patrol is observing AMBER Alert Awareness Day on Monday in an effort to recognize the programs successes.

The AMBER Alert system has been activated 216 times in California, which led to the rescue of 254 children, according to CHP records

ā€œThe public has been essential to the success of California’s AMBER Alert system,ā€ said CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow. ā€œWorking together with law enforcement, broadcasters, and other government agencies has proven successful in saving the lives of hundreds of children in California for more than a decade.ā€

The system is used to alert Californians when law enforcement believes a child is in danger of serious injury or death. Ā

It was mostĀ recently used to find a kidnapped chidĀ in Antioch, California.Ā  A Target employee is credited with helping capture the man who took that seven-year-old girl. Ā Ā

The AMBER Alert system was first implemented in California in July 2002.
