Dumbarton Bridge Crash Victim Identified

BREAKING: The CHP says the car rolled several times.

FREMONT, CA — A man killed late Wednesday morning in a crash on the westbound entrance to the Dumbarton Bridge near Fremont has been identified by the Alameda County coroner's bureau as Terrance Culhane, 64, of Dublin.

Culhane died in a crash that was reported at 11:43 a.m. on westbound state Highway 84 west of the bridge's toll plaza, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Culhane was driving a 2003 Hyundai when he attempted to pass a big-rig. As he was passing the truck on its left side, his Hyundai veered toward the center divider wall.

He overcorrected and veered sharply to the right, crashing into a metal guardrail and causing the vehicle to overturn several times until it came to rest on its roof, according to the CHP.

Medical personnel pronounced Culhane dead at the scene.

Two lanes were closed as a result of the crash but reopened by 12:50 p.m.

The CHP is asking anyone with information about the crash to contact Officer K. Shepardson at (510) 489-1500.
