Extra DUI Patrols In Newark

It's holiday party season, and the police department is taking precautions to keep everyone on the road safe,

NEWARK, CA — Between now and the end of the year, the Newark Police Department has more officers on patrol looking for drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

“Unfortunately, this time of year is when we see more people driving impaired,” Lt. David Higbee. “There is no excuse for driving after drinking or using drugs that impair. There are many ways to get home safely without driving.”

If you are hosting a holiday party, the police department recommends that you offer non-alcoholic drinks for designated sober drivers and ask people who are drinking how they are getting home. If someone has been drinking and tries to leave, offer to have them stay the night or take ride-share home.
