Hawk Rescued From Netting On Gas Station Roof

The hawk was taken to a local veterinary hospital for a clean bill of health before being released.

NEWARK, CA — Everyone has heard about firefighters rescuing cats from trees and, around here, they're kept busy pulling ducklings from storm drains every spring. Well here's a new title for Alameda County firefighters: raptor rescuer.

The specific bird of prey is a hawk that got caught in netting on top of a gas station in Newark.

On Sunday, a pair of firefighters spent about 15 minutes carefully separating the bird from the netting as the hawk kept an eagle-eye on their efforts.

The Newark Police Department is credited with directing traffic away from the rescue and providing other support, including the ambulance ride to the vet.
