I-880 Closures Planned This Week
A gas pipeline that crosses over I-880 between Mowry and Thornton avenues will be removed, forcing the closure of the highway.
NEWARK, CA — PG&E plans to remove a natural gas pipeline that crosses over I-880 between Mowry and Thornton avenues. The removal over the northbound lanes will happen overnight Friday into Saturday. Phased shutdowns will begin at 9:30 p.m. with the highway expected to be fully open by 8 a.m. Saturday.
The whole process will be repeated the following night over the southbound lanes.

- All northbound lanes of I-880 will be closed between Mowry Avenue and Thornton Avenue on Saturday from 2 to 5 a.m. The detour will be in effect at Mowry Avenue. Phased lane closures will begin at 9:30 p.m. on Friday. All lanes are scheduled to be reopened by 8 a.m. on Saturday.
- All southbound lanes of I-880 will be closed between Thornton and Mowry avenues on Sunday from 3 to 6 a.m. The detour will be in effect at Thornton Avenue. Phased lane closures will begin at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday. All lanes are scheduled to be reopened by 9 a.m. on Sunday.
The pipeline is being removed because it is no longer used.
