Major Crimes Task Force Apprehends Man on Cotton Avenue
The road was blocked for hours, according to Newark residents who live nearby.

The Southern Alameda County Major Crimes Task Force officers swarmed Cotton Avenue in Newark on Wednesday to execute a high-risk search warrant, blocking off the roadĀ in the process. Ā
āSome of us were unable to get back home after taking the kids to school,ā said Newark residentĀ Karen Scott Vargas, describing theĀ blockades placed in the 6200 block of Cotton Avenue.Ā
Newark Police officers and the Union City SWAT team assisted during the arrest ofĀ Victor Castro, 24. Ā Castro was arrestedĀ with a āRamey warrant,ā according to Newark Police Commander Michael Carroll.Ā
A Ramey warrant is a special warrant thatĀ bypassesĀ the District Attorneyās office.Ā The officer takes the case directly to the judge to obtain the warrant instead of going through the DA's office.Ā
Castro was booked into Fremont Jail.Ā The Major Crimes Task Force spokesperson did not return a phone call to elucidate the nature of his arrest by the time of this articleās publication.
