The government shutdown is hitting closer to home.Ā
According to KTVU, Fremont-based nonprofitĀ LIFE ElderCareĀ may be forced to temporarily suspend its vital Meals on Wheels program.

The program provides 350 elderly residents in Fremont, Union City and Newark with healthy meals each day. The programĀ receives $100,000Ā āĀ a third of its annual fundingĀ āĀ from the federal government, KTVU reports.
LIFE ElderCare Executive Director Patricia OsageĀ told KTVU that the organization relies on federal employees to process the paperwork that allows them to purchase food. With federal offices closed, thereās no one to call for help.

While the organization is able to get by and serve local seniors for now, it may not be able to do so in 10 days.Ā
