A man and a woman were injured in a shooting in East Palo AltoĀ early this morning, police said. At about 1:24 a.m., officers received a report of a vehicle beingĀ followed closely by another vehicle.Ā Ā
Shortly thereafter, a ShotSpotter activation alerted police toĀ gunshots fired near the intersection of University and Michigan avenues, nearĀ Jack Farrell Park.Ā Police then received a 911 call from a victim of a gunshot woundĀ in the 2200 block of University Avenue.Ā Ā
Officers located a parked vehicle with a shattered rear window andĀ made contact with the occupants of the vehicle. Officers discovered that twoĀ of the three occupants had been shot, according to police. Ā The passenger in the back seat, an 18-year-old East Palo AltoĀ woman, sustained a bullet wound to her left arm, police said.Ā
The driver, a 27-year-old Newark man, sustained a bullet wound toĀ his right arm. The injuries to both occupants are not consideredĀ life-threatening, according to police. The third passenger, who was sitting in the front seat, did notĀ sustain any injuries, police said. Ā According to the preliminary police investigation, two or threeĀ suspects in a white newer model Toyota Camry with tinted windows followed theĀ victims as they were driving east on University Avenue.Ā The suspects fired upon the victims from their vehicle in the 2400Ā block of University Avenue, injuring two of the three occupants, police said.Ā

The victims turned their vehicle around and drove west toward theĀ 2200 block of University Avenue. Meanwhile, the suspect vehicle fled theĀ area, according to police.Ā Emergency crews from Menlo Park arrived on scene first andĀ rendered medical aid to the victims. The victims were then transported to aĀ local hospital for further medical treatment, according to police. Ā
