Newark Memorial Miracle Season Ends For Varsity Girls Basketball

Samantha Armas lead the Newark squad with 14-points, while Ryle Sarasua contributed 12- points.

ROHNERT PARK, CA — The Newark Memorial varsity girls basketball team could not pull off another fourth quarter miracle against Rancho Cotate Tuesday at Rohnert Park in the first round of the North Coast Sectional tournament.

The tough Newark Memorial squad, who were outsized and out numbered, fell to the Rancho Cotate lady Cougars 62-48.

However, in what was almost a repeat of their game against Irvington on Friday the Newark Memorial women went into the fourth quarter within 3-points of Rancho Cotate, 38-35, thanks to clutch outside shooting and turnovers.

But, with 4:36 left on the game clock Rancho Cotate pulled ahead with a 47-37 margin. Then Rancho Cotate's starters hit three consecutive baskets off of turnovers to take the air out of Newark Memorial.

Newark Memorial only had four extra players suited up on the bench compared to the ten extra players that Rancho Cotate had in reserve.
