Newark Police Maintained Safety Levels, FBI Records Show

The Federal Bureau of Investigation released data this week, which shows aĀ nationwide increase of violent crimes and a decrease of property crimes after compiling crime data from 18,000 jurisdictions in 50 states.Ā
There is good news for Newark residents.
Newark Police reportedĀ 169Ā violent crimesĀ to the FBIĀ in 2012, which is a slight decrease from the 170 illegal acts of violenceĀ reported in 2011.
The cityās violent crime rate is 3.8 known offenses per 1,000 residents and a property crime rate of 30.4 known offenses per 1,000 people. Ā
The number ofĀ property crimesĀ decreased toĀ 1,349 incidents fromĀ 1,386 last year.Ā
