Newark Police Maintained Safety Levels, FBI Records Show
Patch accessed data East Bay police department reported to the FBI to discern the differences between the law enforcement agencies.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation released data this week, which shows a nationwide increase of violent crimes and a decrease of property crimes after compiling crime data from 18,000 jurisdictions in 50 states.
There is good news for Newark residents.
Newark Police reported 169 violent crimes to the FBI in 2012, which is a slight decrease from the 170 illegal acts of violence reported in 2011.
The city’s violent crime rate is 3.8 known offenses per 1,000 residents and a property crime rate of 30.4 known offenses per 1,000 people.
The number of property crimes decreased to 1,349 incidents from 1,386 last year.
