Police Raid Home, Exit With Marijuana
Newark residents banded together to share information and unearth what happened.

Law enforcement officialsĀ cordoned off Lafayette AvenueĀ Wednesday afternoon to confiscate marijuana plants, according to Patch readers.
At least one helicopter flew overhead, while residents of Lafayette AvenueĀ grew concerned.
One resident was on his way to pick up his granddaughter from school at about 2:30 p.m. when he witnessed Newark PoliceĀ leaving a homeĀ with a green recycling bin full of marijuana. He said more was on the ground. The marijuana was being confiscated from a residence at theĀ intersection of Lafayette Avenue and Barnard Street, according to Newark residents.Ā
The neighborhood was blocked off from Ruschin Preschool to Lafayette, according to another Patch reader.
āSome guy is barricaded in a house. They have SWAT and the feds out there.Ā Apparently theyāre trying to serve a warrant on the guy,ā another Patch reader said on our Facebook Page.
It is unclear how long police were at the scene. One Patch reader said they sawĀ federal ATF agents and cops on Fernwood Drive.Ā
A Newark Police spokesperson said that the department'sĀ SWATĀ was called in to help The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. He had no additional information.
The Alameda County Sheriff's Office says they have no reports of the incident.
At about 4 p.m., Newark residents reported that the incident had been cleared.More than 10 Patch readers contributed to this report.Ā
