Possible Suicide Averted By Police Response

Police and fire authorities gathered on the 7600 block of Sunset Avenue Monday afternoon, prompting from Newark Patch readers to wonder why.

Newark police say they were called to a residence occupied by a potentially suicidal person.

Officers made contact with the individual and, after several hours of negotiation, they were able to safely detain him.

He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
