Preparing to Reopen Newark Businesses Impacted by COVID-19

Newark City Council Approves an Urgency Ordinance to Facilitate Business Operations Impacted by COVID-19 and Applicable Health Orders

The latest Alameda County Health Officer Orders relaxes restrictions effective June 19, 2020 by allowing the reopening of outdoor museums, outdoor restaurant dining, religious services, indoor/outdoor retail, and outdoor fitness classes.

In an effort to support the business community and assist businesses in reopening, the Newark City Council approved an urgency ordinance on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 authorizing the Community Development D...irector to issue COVID-19 Minor Use Permits and Waive Requirements of the Zoning Code to facilitate business operations impacted by COVID-19. This will allow local businesses to function and open to the public while still operating in a manner that complies with best practices recommended by health officials to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

The County is finalizing their guidelines to reopening. Until then, should you have any questions, please feel free to email the City's Planning Department or call them at (510) 578-4330.
