NEWARK, CA — The Newark Police Department is mourning the death of one of its officers who passed away Sunday due to cancer.
"Officer Oskar Reyes was a veteran law enforcement officer known for his professionalism and love of the job," police said in a statement posted on the department's Facebook page.
Dozens of Facebook users lamented his death and sent their condolences to Reyes' family.

Reyes was also a former deputy with the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, sheriff's officials said on Twitter.
"You will be missed," sheriff's officials said in the post.
