Three Fixer-Uppers on Sale for $1

Three historic buildings from Fremont and Newark are on sale today for one dollar each, according to the East Bay Regional Park District.

The district is in the process of renovating the Ardenwood Historic Farm Regional Preserve, which means these old houses have to go.

The homes will be demolished unless someone purchases them, according to a project preparation statement issued in August 2013.  

The homes are known as Brown House, Bettencourt House, and Mowry Schoolhouse. Project managers say the homes were moved from their owners in Fremont and Newark circa 1984 with the goal of turning them into educational centers for visitors.  However, the cost of making the buildings safe was too much.

The buildings are from Alameda County’s mid-century farm period, according to City of Newark employees who also say the buildings could be included in the California Register of Historic Houses.

The houses are located at 34600 Ardenwood Boulevard in Fremont, California.  They are on sale, as-is, for $1.  The person who buys them, gets to move them.
