Friday Night: Tri-City DUI Checkpoint

The exact location has not been disclosed.

FREMONT, CA — The Fremont Police Department will close out May with a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint. It will be held Friday, May 31, between the hours of 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. The exact location is not being disclosed to the public at this time.

According to the department, "The deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints is a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes. Research shows that crashes involving alcohol drop by an average of 20 percent when well-publicized checkpoints are conducted often enough."

The location of the checkpoint will be chosen based on previous drunk driving stops, plus the safety of stopping traffic at that spot.

Some drivers using prescription or over-the-counter medications could be considered as driving under the influence. Check drug labels to see if they cause drowsiness. Mixing medications with alcohol is also a potent combination.
