Two Suspects Sought After Check Center Attempted Robbery

The employee was not injured

Police are searching for men who reportedly tried to rob a cash checking business on Thursday morning. 

Newark police officers responded to Check Center on the 5700 block of Thornton Avenue shortly before 8 p.m. after an employee called and said to male suspects ran toward her and tried to follow her as she was opening the side door of the business.

The woman threww her hot coffee onto the suspects, went inside the business and locked the door, police said.

Both suspects were described as male. One was described as a 6-foot Hispanic male and the other was described as a 6-foot Black male. 

The two men were last seen heading southbound on St. Edwards Drive and both of the men's faces were covered.
