Where To Get Sandbags In Newark

NEWARK, CA —With several days of heavy rain in the forecast, the City of Newark has stocked free sandbags and sand for residents.

If you think that you may need sandbags, get them as soon as possible.

Bring your own shovel, and it's best to have two people get the sandbags since it's easier to fill them if one person holds the bag while the other person shovels in the sand. Limit: 10.

Here are the sandbag locations:

• Newark Maintenance Yard, 37440 Filbert Street
• After hours, empty sandbags are available at all three Newark Fire Stations

Another smart reminder is to check for leaves and other debris in the gutters of your home and along your street, especially near storm drains. Sweep away leaves to keep the water flowing.
