Woman Plows Into Fire Hydrant in Newark

Arrested for driving while intoxicated.

A woman was arrested in Newark, California on Tuesday for driving into a fire hydrant while intoxicated.Ā 

Witnesses say they saw Erica Corte's car driving on the wrong side of the road in the 55100 block of Dorchester Court at 11:36 p.m. Newark Police said her car swerved across the median into a small tree and a fire hydrant, which broke.

Water sprayed about 22 feet into the air, as you can see in the photo attached to this post. The car also hit the house, causing an undetermined amount of damage to the property.

Alameda County Water District staff said the cost to replace the fire hydrant and repair the pipes will cost a total of $7,900. $4,800 of that is for response and cleanup.

No injuries were reported to the police.

Newark Police arrested Corte for driving while intoxicated. She was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
