ORANGE COUNTY, CA — Two people were arrested Sunday after a two-week manhunt in the road rage shooting that claimed the life of 6-year-old Aiden Leos.

Marcus Anthony Eriz, 24, and Wynne Lee, 23, are believed to be responsible for the shooting that led to Aiden's death, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Florentino Olivera.

After police received a tip, the couple were arrested at their home in Costa Mesa Sunday and are expected to be charged with murder, the CHP reported. They were each being held on $1 million bail with a court appearance expected Tuesday.

On May 21, Joanna Cloonan was driving a silver Chevrolet Sonic toward Yorba Linda, taking her young son to school, and he was buckled into his car seat in the back of the car. At some point, her car was fired upon in a road rage shooting by the occupants of a white Volkswagen after a perceived unsafe lane change, according to Olivera.

It is not known how many shots were fired at their car.

Aiden died in his mother's arms and was declared dead at a nearby hospital, authorities said.

Investigators received numerous reports and leads, leading to an intensive search by multiple agencies.

Ultimately, Ariz and Lee were identified as the prime suspects, Olivera said.

"On behalf of Border Division Chief Omar Watson and the Santa Ana area, we are deeply grateful for the professionalism and tireless commitment of our investigators who have worked on this case from day one to find those responsible for Aiden's death," said CHP Commissioner Amanda Ray in a released statement. "While these arrests will not ease the pain of a mother's loss, my hope is for the Leos family to have some peace of mind and to rest assured the CHP will work with the Orange County District Attorney to bring justice for Aiden."

A reward leading to the capture and conviction in Aiden's death had grown to $500,000, with matching help from Orange County Supervisors Don Wagner and Katrina Foley and a community who rallied behind Aiden's family.

“The growth of the reward amount was very gratifying to see,” Wagner said. “After I announced my matching reward, my colleague, Supervisor Foley, immediately jumped in, and individuals and business soon followed. This community came together in a gratifying way. If you commit a crime here, we will do everything we can to hunt you down and see justice done.”
