Corona Del Mar Sea Kings Win State Championships

It was a long road to the Division 1-A CIF Title for the Sea Kings, but this group managed to win it all in 2019.

CORONA DEL MAR, CA — It was an undefeated year for the Corona Del Mar Sea Kings, who managed to hold off the San Mateo Serra team with a 35-27 victory to win it all in 2019 on Saturday night.

The Sea Kings brought home the CIF State Championship, marking the second 16-0 season for the football team. Coach Dan O'Shea told the Los Angeles Times that the team plays for the entire community.

"It's where these kids are from, and that's what they believe in," he told the Times. Though the first half was low-scoring by the Sea Kings standards, the boys brought it in the second half. The game, held at Cerritos College Stadium, ended with an interception by Tommy Griffin, sealing the victory for the Sea Kings with two seconds left, according to sportswriter Andrew Turner.
