Crews Try to Save Humpback Whale Tangled in Lobster Trap off Newport Coast
For the second time this week, a humpback whale has become tangled in lobster traps in local waters.

A whale got entangled in netting a mile off the Balboa pier today, a sheriff’s lieutenant said.
The whale got stuck in two lobster pot nets, according to Orange County sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Hallock.
The harbor patrol was monitoring the whale, reportedly a humpback, while awaiting an “entanglement team” to come and free it, Hallock said shortly before 1 p.m.

Another humpback whale was rescued off the San Diego coast earlier this week after it was tangled in lobster nets. Earlier this month, crews worked to save a tangled fin whale off the Orange County coastline, and a tangled blue whale evaded rescue workers in local waters last month.
