Fatal Crash Closes Southbound Costa Mesa Freeway, DUI Suspected
A BMW driving at a high rate of speed slammed into a Lexus, both heading southbound on state Route 55. One woman died at the scene.
TUSTIN, CA — A woman died in a high-speed crash between a BMW and Lexus early Tuesday on State Route 55, California Highway Patrol reported.
The unidentified woman was a passenger in the BMW and died as a result of the crash, the CHP said.
Both drivers were taken to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries.

Anthony Robles, behind the wheel of the BMW, is suspected of driving under the influence, the CHP said. He has not been arrested, and charges have not yet been filed as of this report.
The CHP placed a SigAlert for Highway 55 from 2:30 a.m. to just before 5 a.m. as a result of the crash.

Shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday, a 2008 BMW 335i collided with a 2012 Lexus, CHP Sgt. Justin Vaughn told Patch.
The BMW was headed southbound in the No. 3 lane on Highway 55 at speeds in excess of 65 mph, according to Vaughn.
Meanwhile, an unidentified woman was driving a 2012 Lexus RX350 southbound on Highway 55 at about 70 mph, also in the No. 3 lane. The BMW struck her vehicle in a high-speed rear-end collision, Vaughn said. The Lexus overturned in the crash.
The BMW's passenger died, and the coroner was called to the scene. Robles was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The Lexus driver was also taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.
