FBI Search For "Keep Smiling Bandit" Bank Robber In Orange County

The suspect got his name from telling the bank clerks to "keep smiling."

FBI officials today asked for the public’s help tracking down the Keep Smiling Bandit, who has struck twice in Orange County this month.

The latest holdup was Saturday at the Citibank branch at 18232 Irvine Blvd. in Tustin, according to Laura Eimiller of the FBI. The same man is suspected of robbing the Citibank branch at 234 E. 17th St. in Costa Mesa on Wednesday.

Eimiller said that during the robberies, the suspect told bank clerks to “keep smiling.”

The suspect is a white man in his early 30s, 5 feet 7 to 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a thin build. In both robberies, he wore glasses and a baseball cap and appeared nervous, Eimiller said.

Anyone with information about the robber was asked to call 911 or the FBI in Los Angeles at (310) 477-6565.
