Gas Leak In Costa Mesa Leads To Closures, Evacuations: Report
Costa Mesa Fire and Police blocked roads and evacuated a portion of a nearby apartment complex after a gas leak was reported Wednesday.

COSTA MESA, CA — Costa Mesa Police and Fire Departments were on the scene of a natural gas leak Wednesday afternoon.
A road construction crew reported the leak to a two-inch gas line just after 1:30 p.m. at the 400 block of Merrimac Way, officials reported.
Costa Mesa Fire and Rescue evacuated 23 people out of nine apartment units affected by the leak, according to spokesperson Capt. Joe Noceti.

Merrimac Way remained closed between Harbor Boulevard and Fairview Road for the duration of the incident until the SoCal Gas company resolves the leak, Noceti says.
"We are on scene as well assisting with traffic," Noceti tells Patch.

Both east and westbound Merrimac would remain temporarily closed at the 400 block of Merrimac Way.
Drivers were told to avoid the area.
